Second Grade Parent Letter

Dear 2nd graders (well actually you are 3rd graders now :),

Thank you for a great year! I am thankful that God put each one of you in my class this past year. I learned from each one of you. I will miss you. Have a wonderful summer. Be sure to stop in next fall and tell me about the fun things you did this summer. If you worked on your summer packet be sure to turn it in to me for a prize! I will be praying that God keeps you safe this summer and blesses you with a successful year in third grade.

Dear

Welcome to Second Grade! My name is Mrs. Menefee and I will be your teacher this year. I am glad that you are a part of my class.

Second grade is a fun and exciting year. There are many things to look forward to. This year we will be learning more about reading and writing. We will review parts of sentences, learn more about nouns, and verbs, and learn about writing paragraphs. Later in the year we will begin to write in cursive. We will also work with graphs, adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers, and fractions. In Bible we will learn about many of God’s people and the promises that God made to each of them. We will learn how God worked in their lives and how he works in our lives. I am also looking forward to all the fun things we will learn in Science and Social Studies. We will learn about our plants, animals, rocks and much more.

Our theme this year is God’s Creation: Caring and Celebration. Throughout the year we will be learning more about God’s creation and how we can care for God’s creation and celebrate what God has created. We will also spend some time learning all about the things that are made by God. You are one of the wonderful things made by God. I am so thankful that God made you!

I hope you are getting ready and excited for Second Grade. I have been busy getting ready for you to come. I am excited to start a new year. On the first day of school I would like you to bring a picture of yourself so that we can hang it in our room. Do not forget the other things that you need to bring on the first day of school. I have included another list on the back of this sheet just in case you need it. I am looking forward to seeing you in 2nd grade on September 1st!

* Clipboard (wooden are best)

* 1 spiral wide ruled notebook 50-70 pages

* Backpack (it must fit in your locker)

* Pencil box (must fit in your desk)

* Indoor (P.E.) shoes

* Box of Kleenex or Clorox wipes

* A 1 inch 3 ring binder
