First Grade - Miss Frieswyk

1st Grade News

January 30, 2012 Volume 11, Issue 21

* Reading: This week we are learning using the story The Wind and the Sun. Students will be learning about setting and plot and cause and effect.

* Math: We are finishing up our unit on time! Students have done a wonderful job learning to tell time by 5 minutes.

* Writing: This week we are going to be reviewing writing strong first sentences that tell the reader what the rest of writing will be about.

* Science: We have finished our unit on weather, and are moving on to learning about the amazing bodies God gave us.

* Bible: We continue to spend time learning about the Israelites entering the Promised Land.

* Phonics: We are learning about the sound er, ir, and ur make together, and Bert the Bird is helping us learn this sound.

* Our Valentine’s Day party will be Tuesday, February 14. Please consider creating cards from items you already have at home (magazines, newspapers, markers, crayons, buttons, etc.).

* This week we are leading praise service. You’re welcome to come join us in worship.

Ms. Frieswyk has taught for 10 years, all of which has been at Muskegon Christian School in our First Grade classroom. Melissa holds a B.A. in English and Fine Arts from Calvin College and her M.Ed. with a specialty in reading/language arts from Grand Valley State University. Ms. Frieswyk likes the excitement her first grade students have for learning and enjoys sharing her love of reading with them. She especially enjoys directing her students in reader's theater and puppet shows.

Ms. Frieswyk takes pleasure in music and loves to spend time outside with family and friends.
