4 Year old Preschool - Mrs. Ritsema

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS Muskegon Christian Preschool

Dear Parents.

Welcome to Preschool! This is the beginning of an exciting year of activities. Our goals is to provide your child with experiences that will develop and improve his or her pre-kindergarten skills. We also want your child to have a positive image of school!

Your child may wish to bring a bag or back pack to school to help them carry home our many projects. Back packs are put in your child's cubby when he or she enters the preschool room. Anything your child brings from home will also be kept in his or her backpack during school time.

Children should come to school dressed for outdoor play. We consider learning to take our outdoor clothing on and off and put it away as part of our curriculum. We do paint often and although we do wear paint shirts, some spills or paint spots are inevitable. If you will be devastated if your child gets a spot of paint on a certain article of clothing, please do not send your child to school in those clothes.

At the beginning of each month, parents will receive a letter of monthly activities.

These activities are not always "set in stone," but they do give you an idea what we are learning.

Parent helpers and snack helpers are also listed on the monthly notes. We will need a Parent Helper every day. Let me know which days you (or a grandparent or favorite adult) are available to help in the classroom by signing the “Volunteer Helper Sheet” on my clipboard.

Every day the children take turns bringing a snack and passing it out at snack time. Currently we have 13 children in the morning class and 12 children in the afternoon class. Children will pour their own milk and may have as little or as much as they pour. (They do, however, have to finish any milk they pour.) Usually we have a choice of white or chocolate milk every day. Even if your child does not drink milk at home, you may be surprised to see them drink it at school when they get to pour it and ‘everyone else‘ is drinking it! Please let me know immediately if your child is allergic to any food!

Just as academic subjects such as math readiness, pre-writing skills, language, reading and science are integrated into our curriculum, so is our Christian faith woven into our daily activities. We use songs, books, and prayer to introduce Christian principles and we also present each unit as a part of God's World.

Many times parents ask if there is anything we need for the classroom. We can always use rolls of paper towels, paper plates, brown paper lunch bags, magic erasers, liquid soap, lysol wipes, and tissues.

If you have any questions during the school year, feel free to call me at home during the evening (798-4760) or at school during the day. (773-3221 ext.113 ). I also check my e-mail every day if you need to notify me of something. MRitsema@mchristianschool.com.

I am looking to a fun year with your children.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Maryl Ritsema

“We are God’s masterpieces. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

Mrs. Ritsema developed the Muskegon Christian School Preschool program in 1972 and has taught preschoolers at MCS for 36 years.  The program has expanded from the original 3 mornings per week to 3 full days and 2 half days per week, serving three-year-olds and four-year-olds.  In 2003, Maryl headed the establishment and management of the MCS Child Care Program which has expanded and improved each year under the leadership of Jan Westerhof.

Maryl holds a B.A. from Hope College and a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Grand Valley State University.

Mrs. Ritsema and her husband own Hage's Christian Supplies where she holds a Story Hour - Reading Club every summer.  Maryl enjoys reading, cross-word puzzles, cooking, gardening, babysitting her 8 grandchildren and writing.
