Spanish Immersion Preschool
¡Hola! , My name is Maestra Hernandez and I am so excited to begin this year of a great adventure with all of you. Learning Spanish is a great tool we can use for doing the Lord’s work. I pray that God will help us all to learn and have lots of good times together.
I will be sending out a monthly news letter to keep you informed of what we will be learning and special activities we may be having.
The first few weeks we will be learning class routine using some English then gradually all Spanish. We want everyone to succeed in learning Spanish so we will ask all parents and teachers who enter our class to speak only Spanish. If time permits we may speak out in the hall or you can make an appointment for another time.
Our three class rules are:
Escuchar a la maestra (Listen to the teacher)
Listen with your eyes, your ears and your heart.
Amar a mis amigos (love my friends)
How can you love your new friends? (share, wait for turn, listen when other are talking, hands to self)
Ser feliz (be happy)
Try to speak Spanish. Try to do all of the activities even when they’re not your favorite.
Words will be learning: Maestra(teacher), hola(hi), adios(goodbye), orar(pray), bozon (mail box), lapiz(pencil), pegamento(glue), nombre (name), Tijeras(scissors), papel(paper), crayones (crayons), mesa(table), silla(chair)
Question of the week: Como te llamas? (what is your name?)
Cual es tu nombre? (which one is your name?)
Songs: Recojer (clean up),el agua y javon(hand washing), Cristo me ama (Jesus loves me), Buenos dias(good morning), sentadito como pretzel(sitting position)

Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15 and ends October 15. September 15 was chosen as the starting point for Hispanic Heritage Month because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Hispanic Heritage Month is designed to focus national attention upon the contributions of Hispanics to American society.
We will be making paper bag piñatas on September 27.

You may donate goodies for this project.
Brown paper bags, small prizes, and candy
Gracias! (Thank you!)
I will be using the samafaro (stoplight discipline) for our classroom management plan.
When they are following the 3 rules of the class they are all on verde (green). If they
break a rule, I will tell them “tienes uno” (you have one). If the child breaks a rule again
in the same class period, I will say, “tienes dos” (you have two). If the child does it
again for a third time, I will move the child’s name from green to yellow and have them
sit in a listening chair behind the group. If the offense takes place at a different time in
the schedule, I will just move their name to yellow and have them participate
separately. Fourth time they will be moved to red and will sit by their mochila
(backpack). After five minutes, I will talk with them and if they are sorry and ready to
obey, they will say “lo siento” (I’m sorry) and return to the group activity.
Please be sure your child has the following materials on the first day of class:
- one 1” 3 ring binder
- one pocket folder
- backpack (it must fit in your locker)
